Things seemed calmer in the ConnorsCenter and Carrie Hall on Tuesday morning. May 22 marked the first day since Acting Governor Jane Swift departed BWH that reporters no longer maintained a standing presence at 15 Francis Street. In a matter of three days, Swift performed her first press conference since the May 15 birth of her twin daughters, was discharged as a patient at BWH and departed Boston for her Williamstown home. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the medical staff, support staff, doctors, nurses, media and communications staff at BWH,” said Swift at Saturday’s press conference in Carrie Hall. When asked about her experience at BWH, Swift replied “As I’m sure every other parent who’s had a child here would tell you, to have wonderful professionals taking care of your children is the most reassuring thing that you could ever hope for. “From the time I arrived here almost two weeks ago, I was once again given a first-hand view at how fortunate we all are to live in Massachusetts and to have some of the most outstanding health care professionals available,” added an appreciative Swift as she fielded the media’s numerous questions two days before she and the twins officially departed from BWH. Even though Swift herself was discharged on Sunday, she remained in the Boston area with her husband until their five-day-old daughters, Lauren and Sarah, were discharged on Monday, May 21. “I feel great. I’m excited to go home. It’ll be nice to be able to have the babies and Elizabeth all in the same place again,” said Swift on her way out the door with her newly expanded family. Swift’s eldest daughter, Elizabeth, was also born at BWH in the fall of 1998. “The babies are great,” said Swift before heading to the car to leave BWH, her home away from home for nearly two weeks.
