Making Work Work for You:
Honorary Volunteer of the Year Linda Jo Stern (left) receives her award from Nelda Quigley, former director of Volunteer Services, at the annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony held on Tuesday, May 1. Stern received the honorary award for her work as the director of the BWH Medical Mission to Honduras, and as director of that program’s new form, PROMESA. The international theme for this year’s ceremony stemmed from the United Nations’ declaration that 2001 would be the “International Year of Volunteers.” “This year’s ceremony was a wonderful celebration of our volunteers, who contribute so much to the hospital,” said Barbara Stowe, program and training coordinator, Volunteer Services. The ceremony was held to celebrate and recognize the work--including approximately 127,000 hours of service--that BWH’s 767 volunteers have performed in the past year. Call the Volunteer Office at ext. 2-5998 for more information on volunteering at BWH.
