They may not have crossed the finish line as fast as Lee Bong-Ju or Catherine Ndereba, but the 122 members of Team Brigham—including 13 BWH employees—won the 105th Boston Marathon in their own way: by raising $375,000 for the hospital’s community benefits programs. John Dutton, MD, Emergency Department, was the first BWH employee on Team Brigham to complete the Marathon, coming in at 3:52:09. Elizabeth Taylor, RN, Cardiac Surgery ICU, finished the Marathon in 4:23:41, making her the first female BWH employee to finish this year. The oldest Team Brigham member, Bill Bliss, completed his third Marathon as a Team Brigham member with a time of 5:30:31. For the past several months, the members of Team Brigham have been preparing for the Marathon not just by exercising and running, but also by fundraising. Each Team Brigham participant made a personal commitment to raise at least $2,000, with a team-wide total goal of $375,000. At this point, more than $200,000 has been raised for BWH’s Office for Women, Family and Community Programs, and the team is well on its way to reaching its goal. A special thanks is offered to Mike and Katie Roughan, who opened their home to Team Brigham prior to the Marathon’s start on Monday. Preparations for next year’s Boston Marathon are also underway. At this point, some participants have already registered to run on Team Brigham in 2002. The times of the members of Team Brigham who are BWH employees are listed below: Erica Battit, Endocrinology-Hypertension Unit at 4:50:56 John Dutton, MD, Emergency Department at 3:52:09 Kristin Ellison, MD, Cardiovascular Division at 4:35:48 Melissa Gazda, RN, Staff Nurse at 5:45:00 Maggie Hayden, Public Affairs at 5:06:02 Diane Heller, MD, Emergency Department at 4:39:33 Michael Herman, Research at 4:28:14 Anne Maliszewski, Research at 4:50:56 Barbara Masser, MD, General Surgical Specialties at 5:11:58 Julia Quigley, Office for Women, Family and Community Programs at 4:29:33 Carol Reynolds, Research at 4:32:00 Aswita Tan, Office for Women, Family and Community Programs at 5:37:21 Elizabeth Taylor, RN, Cardiac Surgery ICU at 4:23:41
