BWH is poised to launch the hospital’s redesigned web site within the next few weeks. The site, which has been in development for more than six months, has undergone a wholesale content and appearance facelift. The new site will feature a more streamlined and contemporary look that will prove to be more user friendly and informative. Specifically, the site has been restructured to provide easier access guiding users to four portals of information—general and visitor information; health and patient education; for medical professionals and research information. One highlight of the new site will be an on-line medical library to provide a comprehensive health and disease database of more than 100,000 pages for patients, consumers and physicians. The home page will also showcase a monthly feature article as well as a prominent “news of the day” and event links. The redesign effort was spearheaded by Marketing and Planning and Information Systems with the BWH Web Committee, made up of leaders from several key areas of the hospital including patient education, physician relations, public affairs, finance, operations and research. A recently formed Web Editors Committee, made up of representatives from departments and programs associated with the web site content, has assisted in the site development as well.
