Students in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) After-School Student Internship Program at BWH met with their mentor Maureen Samson, technical director, Clinical Labs (far left) and James W. Winkelman, MD, vice president, Clinical Laboratories (far right) on Tuesday, January 23. The HHMI students, who attend one of four high schools in Cluster 4 of the Boston Public School system, have been working in various departments in the hospital while participating in workshops and seminars with BWH leaders. The program was created to increase exposure to and interest in biomedical science careers among high school students, particularly adolescent girls and minorities of both genders.
