Shapiro Elected into Council of SUO
Jo Shapiro, MD, chief, Division of Otolaryngology in the Department of Surgery, in October was elected into the Council of the Society of University Otolaryngologists (SUO).
Shapiro has been a member of the SUO for 15 years and, since 2002, she has served as chair of the Faculty Development Committee. “I am very excited about this opportunity and am looking forward to helping uphold the vision of this organization,” she said.
The SUO is an organization dedicated to otolaryngologists in academic medicine. Members include department chairs, chiefs, program directors and other faculty who are involved in the field of academic Otolaryngology.
Shapiro joined BWH in 1987 as a faculty member in the Department of Surgery and is now chief of the Division of Otolaryngology. Also, she is a member of the Senior Advisory Board within BWH’s Office for Women’s Careers. Shapiro is the senior associate director of Graduate Medical Education for Partners HealthCare and an associate professor of Otology and Laryngology and director of the Otolaryngology Clerkship at HMS.
