Braunwald Honored with AAMC National Award
Eugene Braunwald, MD, chairman of BWH’s Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) Study Group, last month received the David E. Rogers Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This annual award recognizes a single medical school faculty member who has made major contributions to improving health and health care in the U.S. Braunwald also last month received the inaugural Katz Prize in Cardiovascular Research from Columbia University.
Braunwald was honored for his commitment to research in cardiology and internal medicine. Through the publication of his textbook Braunwald’s Heart Disease and more than 1,200 scientific articles, his editorship in numerous other publications, his commitment to the TIMI study group and his roles as former chairman of BWH’s Department of Medicine and chief academic officer at Partners HealthCare, Braunwald has helped improve the treatment and outcomes for patients with heart attack and cardiovascular disease.
The Association of American Medical Colleges is a nonprofit association of medical schools, teaching hospitals and academic societies. Through medical education, medical research and patient care, the AAMC seeks to improve the nation’s health by expanding the field of academic medicine.
