Spaulding West Roxbury Completes DPH Survey with High Marks
Last fall, Spaulding Nursing & Therapy Center West Roxbury (formerly known as The Boston Center), which has a close connection with Brigham and Women’s/Faulkner Hospitals, completed its 2010 Department of Public Health survey, once again achieving deficiency-free status. The rigorous three-day survey was conducted by three nurse inspectors who methodically reviewed resident records, the environment of care and staff performance.
“The surveyors not only determined West Roxbury to be fully compliant, but they also offered high praise in a number of areas, including medication administration safety, pain management, food services and kitchen environment, rehabilitation services and staff interactions with residents,” said Timothy P. Lynch, MSPT, vice president of Skilled Nursing Division and Ancillary Services, Spaulding Rehabilitation Network. “The surveyors left our facility with an exceptionally positive impression, noting that our staff seem genuinely happy to be working here, whether caring for residents or performing their individual duties. To those of us familiar with the culture in West Roxbury, these words ring very true and capture what makes the facility the special place that it is for residents, their families and the entire team.”
BW/F referrals account for approximately 90 percent of Spaulding West Roxbury’s business, with more than 800 admissions each year. The facilities also share a number of joint programs that enable patients to continue their care and recovery at Spaulding.
The end of the survey marked the completion of the 2010 survey calendar for the four skilled facilities within the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network—Spaulding Nursing & Therapy Center West Roxbury, Spaulding Nursing & Therapy North End, Spaulding North Shore and Clark House—all of which achieved deficiency-free status.
