BWH Kicks Off Krakoff Lectureship

Brigham and Women's Hospital in March hosted the inaugural Robert L. Krakoff Memorial Lectureship in Cardiovascular Medicine, a new program made possible by the generosity of the family and friends of the late Robert L. Krakoff.
THe Division of Cardiovascular Medicine hosted visiting lecturer, Dr. Peter J. Schwartz, professor and chairman of the Department of Cardiology of the Policlinico San Matteo IRCCS in Pavia, Italy. Schwartz graduated with a degree in Medicine from the University of Milan in 1967 and became a cardiology specialist in 1973. He is the only European investigator who has received uninterrupted NIH funding since 1974 and is the author of 1,235 publications.
The Krakoff lectureship is designed to promote the exchange of information and discoveries among BWH faculty, fellows and specialists abroad. It enables BWH to invite the most distinguished and internationally recognized specialists in cardiovascular medicine to visit Boston and share their expertise and experience with the BWH cardiovascular community.
Robert L. Krakoff died in March 2007. He worked for many years in the media business, most recently as president and CEO of Nielsen Business Media, a subsidiary of The Nielsen Company, which provides business-to-business online and print marketing products and services. Sandra Krakoff, his widow, is an active fund raiser and philanthropist who supports many charities. A devotee to advancing women's health, she has been a trustee at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for many years, is an active member of the BWH Osher Center Leadership Council and generous supporter of cardiovascular care and research at BWH.
