BWH Bulletin's year-end issue is a time to reflect on BWHers' proudest moments from the past year. We asked you to share one BWH-related memory from 2013 that was meaningful to you, and you generously offered stories about colleagues, patients, families, events and milestones that continue to inspire you. We hope you enjoy reading these moments.
For the past five years, team members on Tower 4C have gotten together for a blanket-making party in order to give blankets to our patients on Christmas morning.
This year, 15 of us made 10 brightly colored fleece blankets, washed and dried them, and packed them nicely in bags to be distributed later this month. The staff donates their time and the costs of making the blankets, and our patients are often so overwhelmed and cry when receiving them.
Our patients, many of whom are awaiting bone marrow transplants, spend an average of three weeks or longer with us. They can't postpone their treatment around the holidays to be at home with their families, and a lot of them have young children. But I think this helps them. It's something we look forward to doing every year.
