Mary Ann Tynan
Brigham and Women's Health Care (BWHC) mourns the loss of Mary Ann Tynan, longtime board chair at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital and vice chair of the board at BWHC, who passed away Nov. 3 following a battle with cancer.
For more than 15 years, Ms. Tynan had been a dedicated member of the BWHC family, serving in many capacities that brought about lasting change for patients and families. In addition to serving as the board chair at BWFH, she was an active and engaging member of the BWH Care Improvement Council and BWHC Compliance Committee.
"Through her words and actions, Mary Ann was a constant and positive voice for the patient and family perspective," said BWH President Betsy Nabel, MD. "She was a deep, personal friend to so many people."
Ms. Tynan was also an early advocate for the BWH/BWFH merger in 1998, working tirelessly to ensure that patients and families received the right care in the right place. Her passion for improving and advancing the quality and safety of the services we provide through her work on the board will be sorely missed.
"Mary Ann was incredibly visible and present on the BWFH campus and knew many staff members personally," said BWFH Chief Operating Officer Michael Gustafson, MD, MBA. "She was an absolute pleasure to work with, and she had a true vision for the important role that BWFH plays in the Brigham family."
Ms. Tynan is survived by her daughters, Cate O'Dwyer and Emily Tynan, as well as many friends. BWFH will arrange an on-campus event this winter to celebrate her life and her many outstanding contributions to BWFH and the entire Brigham family.
