PACU nurse Hanh Tran receives this year's Asian Pacific Islander Heritage award.
BWH's annual Asian Pacific Islander Heritage award recognizes the hard work and devotion of a BWH nurse of Asian or Pacific Island descent who has gone above and beyond to provide high-quality, compassionate care for patients.
Hanh Tran, BSN, RN, of the PACU, was this year's award recipient for her dedication and devotion to her patients. Tran, a native of Vietnam who moved to America when she was 19 years old, was overwhelmed with gratitude upon receiving her award at the fifth annual celebration.
Tran gave a heartwarming speech, sharing how her upbringing influenced her desire not only to improve patient care, but to uplift families and her colleagues.
"I'm not coming to work every day; I'm coming to my family," said Tran, of BWH and the PACU team.
Guest speaker Anahid Kulwicki, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Boston, spoke of her career path, personal journey and the obstacles she overcame as a Lebanese native of Armenian background who emigrated to the U.S.
"Being here humbles me," she said. "All of my struggles helped me become who I am."
