BWH mourns the loss of Theresa "Terie" Boykin, LPN, a beloved member of the Brigham and Women's Physician Group at 850 Boylston St. She passed away on Jan. 10.
Born in Boston, Mrs. Boykin graduated from Northeastern University, where she majored in physical therapy. Years later, her passion for clinical care inspired her to become a nurse, and she attained her LPN.
She worked at BWH for more than 20 years, and her service extended to several departments within the hospital, including Urology and Internal Medicine. Most recently, Mrs. Boykin served as a clinical nurse supervisor at Brigham and Women's Physician Group, where her colleagues will miss her wit, mentorship and contagious sense of humor.
"She was the heart and light of our practice," said Bella Kirrane, a medical assistant who worked with Mrs. Boykin. "She cared so much for her colleagues, and her colleagues cared so much for her."
Another practice colleague, Janet Fortes-Cellucci, LPN, remembers Mrs. Boykin as a dedicated mentor who always took the time to teach, share her knowledge and encourage others to pursue their career goals.
"I'm working toward becoming a registered nurse, and she was one of the people who encouraged me to do so," said Fortes-Cellucci.
Laura Graham, a project manager for the practice, worked with Mrs. Boykin for nearly 10 years and said she will be greatly missed.
"She was one of greatest assets we had in our practice-she was not only a person who made you smile and laugh all day long, but also someone who cared deeply about our patients," Graham said.
Mrs. Boykin is survived by her children Damon, Tiana, Isaiah and Genevieve; five grandchildren; and a brother, Fred Spencer. A funeral service was held on Jan. 15 at the Beulah Pilgrim Holiness Church in Dorchester.
