Helene Langevin, MD, was appointed director of the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Harvard Medical School and BWH. Langevin comes to BWH from the University of Vermont College of Medicine, where she was a full-time professor of neurological sciences.
"I believe that the development of integrative medicine is an important component of medical and scientific progress," said Langevin. "Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School have shown tremendous commitment and support for the Osher Center, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to pursue the center's mission in this rich academic community."
In addition to serving as director of the center, Langevin will hold an academic appointment in the Division of Preventive Medicine within the Department of Medicine. She is transitioning her research laboratory to BWH and will retain a part-time research appointment at the University of Vermont. Her research focuses on the role of connective tissue in chronic musculoskeletal pain and the mechanism of acupuncture, manual and movement-based therapies.
The Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, established in 2002, is a joint program of HMS and BWH. Its research focuses on the evaluation of complementary and integrative medical therapies, the delivery of educational programs to the medical community and the public, and the investigation of designs for sustainable models of complementary and integrative care delivery within an academic setting.
