BWH patients now have a world-class, multi-specialty outpatient center for comprehensive eye care services nearby. Last month, the Mass. Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI) opened Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Longwood, a new outpatient surgical center at 800 Huntington Ave. The center provides BWH patients with access to MEEI’s clinicians and surgeons, as well as a variety of outpatient services.
The opening of the center builds upon BWH’s clinical affiliation with MEEI, which began in 2009 and provides general ophthalmology and subspecialty ophthalmology consultation services for BWH inpatients, trauma patients and patients in the Emergency Department.
“Our immediate goal for the center is to build awareness in the BWH community about our clinical affiliation and ophthalmology services provided at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Longwood,” said Carolyn Kloek, MD, the center’s clinical director. “In the long term, we would like to create an integrated partnership with BWH-referring physicians to ensure seamless care for their patients at the BWH campus, as well as at the new center and our downtown locations.”
An expansion of the Mass. Eye and Ear Department of Ophthalmology, the 90,000-square-foot space has four operating rooms, state-of-the-art eye care facilities and an optical shop. Services include routine eye care and screenings, care for complex eye diseases such as glaucoma and cataracts, and outpatient surgeries. Additionally, MEEI provides inpatient consultation and trauma services on the BWH campus.
