This spring, BWH will introduce a new time reporting policy for non-exempt employees.
As you may recall, Partners HealthCare recently reached a tentative settlement in a class action lawsuit on behalf of all its entities brought by a small number of employees who charged that they were not being paid for all time worked.
"BWH has always endeavored to pay people correctly, and we are proud of our track record in that respect," said Myron McCoo, JD, interim vice president of Human Resources. Ã’However, the lawsuit has required each Partners hospital to review its policies, practices and procedures surrounding time reporting. The new way of managing time reporting will ensure that we continue to pay our employees correctly. Non-exempt employees should be paid for all time worked."
With the new policy, non-exempt employees will use an electronic system to record time worked. Employees will be paid for all time worked, and there will be no rounding. In addition, non-exempt employees will complete training on the federal Wage & Hour laws. They will also have access to an anonymous, confidential telephone compliance line to report suspected abuse.
"We recognize that these changes are significant for BWH, and we realize their impact on individual employees and work groups," McCoo said. "With your support and cooperation, we will ensure that we continue to pay our non-exempt employees for all time worked, and we are truly grateful for the wonderful care they provide to our patients and families every day."
Manager training begins April 4 and employee training April 11. More information about the training schedule and location will be available soon on BWHPikeNotes.org/Employee_Resources/HR/Timekeeping.aspx. The implementation date for this new process of time reporting is May 15. If you have any questions about the upcoming changes, contact your manager or Human Resources consultant.
