David Rosales and Molly Steinberg
David Rosales, MBA, and Molly Steinberg, MBA, MSW, will spend the next year shadowing clinical and administrative leaders at BWH, working closely with mentors on a number of projects and seeing first-hand how a hospital runs. Both are in their first month of the Deland Fellowship in Health Care and Society, a year-long program offered by BWH to prepare professionals to become health care leaders.
“During the first few weeks, we meet with both clinical and administrative leaders,” said Steinberg. “It’s a great overview of how the organization is structured and works.”
In addition to formal meetings, both will observe surgery and shadow physicians in multiple departments. They will also complete four “deep dives,” spending two to three full days with Human Resources, Information Systems, the Center for Clinical Excellence and Finance.
Each fellow is paired with a vice president—Rosales with Sanjay Pathak, VP of Surgical Services and Imaging, and Steinberg with Julia Sinclair, VP of Clinical Services—who mentors them on projects that align with their interests and goals.
“Given my clinical background, I am particularly interested in patient-centered care,” said Steinberg, who worked for two years as an inpatient clinical social worker at MGH. “I am also eager to learn more about and be involved with operations and process improvement projects.”
Steinberg spent last summer as an MBA intern in BWH’s Department of Emergency Medicine, working on several projects related to process changes. “I feel quite fortunate and am very excited to be back at the Brigham,” she said.
Steinberg received her MBA from Boston University School of Management, her MSW from Simmons School of Social Work and her BA from the University of Michigan.
Rosales spent last summer as an MBA intern for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Prior to business school, he was a project manager for Visiting Nurse Service of New York. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School and his BA from Harvard College.
“I’m excited about any opportunity to work on projects that provide a deeper understanding for hospital operations, and I have a particular interest in projects that impact the patient experience,” said Rosales. “This is the first time I’ve worked in an academic health care environment, so I’m grateful for the chance to have such a comprehensive overview.”
