BWH is known for a rich tradition of excellence in organ transplantation, beginning with the world’s first transplant—a kidney from one twin to another—in 1954 at BWH.
Today, BWH is among the top-rated hospitals in the country for cardiac surgery, lung, bone marrow and kidney transplants. Earlier this year, the hospital became second in the nation to perform a partial face transplant.
Life-saving transplant surgery is not possible without the generosity of organ donors and their families. In this new video, BWH Lung Transplant staff and recipients shine a light on the gift of life through their own personal stories.
