Paul Nuccio this month was named director of Pulmonary Services. In this newly created position, he will oversee the administration and management of the Pulmonary Function Testing lab as well as Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Respiratory Care.
“Paul’s commitment to the growth and development of the Respiratory Therapy Department makes him a natural for this expanded role,” said Gerald Weinhouse, MD, of Pulmonary Medicine and medical director of Adult Respiratory. “I have no doubt that he will continue his dedicated and thoughtful approach to improving service delivery and increasing the research profile of these very important areas of care.”
Nuccio began at BWH in 2000 as the clinical educator in the Respiratory Therapy Department.
“I believe that bringing the respiratory, pulmonary rehabilitation and pulmonary function areas together is a natural transition that will ultimately improve care of patients with cardiopulmonary disease,” Nuccio said.
During his career, Nuccio has authored many articles in research and technical journals and is a member of the editorial boards at both Respiratory Therapy Magazine and the International Journal of Non-invasive Ventilation. He was named a Fellow of the American Association for Respiratory Care, and he recently received the Above and Beyond Award, given by the Department of Defense for his outstanding service and continuing support of the National Guard and Reserves.
Prior to his work at BWH, Nuccio was the director of the Respiratory Care Program at Newbury College and director of Respiratory Care Services at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. Nuccio expects to receive his master’s degree in Leadership from Northeastern University in January.
