Obituary
BWH mourns the loss of Sharon Glassman, a compassionate and dedicated administrative assistant in the Trauma and Burn Program.
“She was creatively optimistic, effortlessly converting problems into opportunities,” said Yvonne Michaud, program manager for Trauma and Burn. “Many of our friends consistently remarked on her enthusiasm and commitment to her work.”
In the two years she worked at BWH, Ms. Glassman’s smile opened doors to many friendships throughout the hospital.
Susan McIntosh, who met Ms. Glassman during a shuttle ride to BWH, said that she made a difference in many patients’ lives. “She worked hard to facilitate and accommodate the needs of every patient,” McIntosh said. “She was so committed that she would sometimes come in on weekends to be sure everything was ready for patients on Monday.”
Donna Cutillo, executive assistant to BWH President Gary Gottlieb, also met Glassman on the shuttle. “We sat together once and instantly became friends,” Cutillo said. “Everywhere she went, she made friends.”
Before joining BWH in 2006, Ms. Glassman worked at Massachusetts General Hospital. She was born in Bronx, N.Y., and moved to Massachusetts in the 1960s. She earned a bachelor’s degree in art education from Boston University.
Ms. Glassman was passionate about community service. She received a Marie Feltin Award for her commitment to empowering people with disabilities in 2000. She volunteered for many projects to help students improve reading skills, and during Thanksgiving, she always could be found helping local charities package and deliver food to people in need.
Ms. Glassman also enjoyed reading, going to museums and attending Broadway shows. “Every weekend, she would rent at least one movie,” Cutillo said. “She loved Casablanca.”
BWH will hold a memorial service to celebrate Ms. Glassman’s life Oct. 17 at 2:30 p.m. in Carrie Hall.
