Did you know that if you lose your BWH-issued Blackberry or laptop, your first call should be to the Help Desk to report it? If you discover a fire, you must pull the alarm closest to it to activate important emergency procedures.
Employees can test their knowledge of these and other important safety tips during the Staff Readiness Fair Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Cabot Atrium. Security, Patient Safety, Biomedical Engineering, Compliance, Human Resources, Occupational Health and Interpreter Services will be among the departments staffing information tables to educate employees. Be sure to stop by the Pharmacy table to play Readiness Jeopardy.
“It’s going to be a fun-filled event,” said Bharti Thakkar, MBA, clinical compliance coordinator, who noted that employees may receive a chance to win an array of raffled prizes and giveaways. A grand prize also will be raffled off at the end of the fair.
Two years ago, the fair drew hundreds of employees to the atrium. “It was a huge success, and we’re looking forward to this year,” said Martha Hamel, HIPAA compliance project manager for Health Information Services.
The fair enables employees to brush up on their safety knowledge, enabling them to provide the best care to patients and families. It also gives employees the opportunity to practice for the Joint Commission’s unannounced survey, which may come anytime between now and May 2010. The Joint Commission maintains a rigorous set of standards that focus on improving the quality and safety of care provided by health care organizations.
