Michelle Keenan last month joined BWH’s Center for Community Health and Health Equity as the director of Community Programs. In this role, she works to strengthen BWH’s relationship with the community.
“The Brigham already has a wonderful reputation in the community, which has paved the way for strong relationships,” said Keenan. “Going forward, we’re interested in opportunities to strengthen those relationships even more by building upon the experience and power of community members and their efforts.”
Keenan works closely with all staff in the Center for Community Health and Health Equity, and she oversees the youth programs, including the Student Success Jobs Program managed by Amy Belyea, and Brigham Book Buddies, pen pals and ScienceWorks managed by Pamela Audeh.
“I’m extremely enthusiastic about the youth programs we offer,” she said. “These programs even more closely connect Brigham staff with young people in the community.”
Prior to joining BWH, Keenan was the director of the Regional Center for Healthy Communities at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She also has held positions including program manager for Community and Health Development in the city of Port Phillip, Australia, program manager for the local community initiatives team in the Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Center in Australia and as a grant writer and consultant for a Time magazine photographer documenting issues in juvenile detention facilities.
She received her master’s degree in social policy from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia, her graduate diploma of applied psychology from Victoria University in Melbourne and her bachelor’s degree in behavioral science from LaTrobe University in Melbourne.
