Peter Libby, MD, conceived, obtained funding for and served as senior medical advisor for “The Mysterious Human Heart,” a three-part documentary that earned executive producer David Grubin an Emmy Award for Outstanding Science, Technology and Nature Programming last month.
The film features the true accounts of a 19-year-old college freshman, a former cowboy, a radio journalist and a one-time drug abuser, each of whom have struggled with a heart problem. Through their compelling stories, “The Mysterious Human Heart” explores common misconceptions about the heart, shedding light on the best ways to prevent and treat disease.
In his role as senior medical advisor, Libby assembled an advisory panel that included BWH’s Eugene Braunwald, MD, principal investigator of the TIMI Group, and Elizabeth Nabel, MD, director of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, among others.
