Chuck Riley, Partners corporate manager of Network Engineering, and his team have been responsible for the wiring in the Shapiro Cardiovascular Center from start to finish. The team of eight people began its mission in early 2005 to ensure the Partners network at BWH stayed up and running during construction while expanding it to the Shapiro Center.
“We had to route certain cables around the move of the triple-deckers before the construction began,” Riley said. “Then we started planning for the building itself. That involved designing and building the data closets and making sure updates made it into the building plans, working with the installers on site to be sure the equipment fit properly, and ensuring that all equipment is installed at the appropriate time.”
When the doors open to Shapiro, Riley’s work is not finished. “We will be on site to make sure everything is working as we planned. After that, we all go into a cycle of routine maintenance,” Riley said.
