Central Transport Services is vital to defining the routes to bring patients to the Shapiro Center and identifying the equipment that must be transported.
Bea Harris-Lane, director of CTS, Paul Lohr, equipment supervisor, Earl West, compliance and training manager, Susan Sabino, finance and operations manager, and Germaine Dorfeuille, day supervisor, have several tasks to preform. In addition to helping to coordinate the patient move, the team also assists in all the projects related to pneumatic tube shut downs, mattress conversions and the purchase of new equipment, such as wheelchairs and beds.
West has taken the lead on preparing the routes to the new building.
“All of the staff need to know how to get back and forth. We’re conducting a series of tours for staff on all three shifts so they know how to bring equipment and patients to and from Shapiro,” West said. “And we are committed to keeping our patients comfortable while in transit.”
The team anticipates a large increase in requests from the current average of 1,200 a day once the building opens. Dorfeuille and her team are prepared for the calls. “The most important thing is to educate our staff. It’s up to us to know where we’re going and to keep patients moving 24/7,” said Dorfeuille.
