Amy Miller, MD, PhD, chief resident in the Department of Medicine, is among those clinicians responsible for building the Shapiro Cardiovascular Center code team.
“With such a physical separation of the Shapiro Center from the Tower, we needed to create a separate code team for Shapiro,” Miller said.
Miller worked closely with O’Neil Britton, MD, to determine which Cardiology house staff would participate on the Shapiro code team and prepared training sessions for those physicians. The code team includes a leader, resident, two interns, senior resident, ICU nurse, respiratory therapist and anesthesiologist, all of whom are advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certified. The training sessions begin in the STRATUS Center in May and will be complete by the time patients move to Shapiro.
“This has been an interesting process, from the logistics of redefining the roles for the team, to utilizing the same resources we’ve always had and spreading them over a broader foot print,” Miller said.
