There will be partial power interruptions during the next month as BWH completes a necessary upgrade to the electrical systems throughout the main campus. The outages are scheduled for short periods of time during overnight hours on specific dates between April 6 and April 25.
“We have plans in place to ensure this upgrade of our electrical system comes off very smoothly,” said Arthur Mombourquette, vice president of Support Services.
During the outages, emergency power is available from red outlets throughout the hospital. Many overhead lights, which are connected to emergency power, will remain on. Air conditioning will remain on, too, and all elevators throughout the hospital will remain operational. Please be sure to turn off any computer stations that would not be used during overnight hours. Clinical builds, the computer work stations in patient care areas, will remain on.
Staff from Engineering will be on hand during these outages ready to supply emergency power where and when it’s needed. They can be reached at ext. 2-6720. Engineering often switches to emergency power in certain sections of the hospital during routine maintenance.
BWH is working with NSTAR and MATEP to upgrade the hospital’s electricity transmission. This process was scheduled for April before warm spring and summer days when power is in high demand for air conditioning.
If you have any questions in advance of this project, call George Player or Colin MacLachlan in Engineering at ext. 2-6721.
