Mark your calendar for next week’s Dennis Thomson Compassionate Care Awards ceremony on Wednesday, March 26, at 4 p.m., in the Bornstein Amphitheater. John Auerbach, MBA, commissioner of the Mass. Department of Public Health, is the keynote speaker.
Auerbach was appointed commissioner in April 2007 by Gov. Deval Patrick and Secretary of Health and Human Services Judyann Bigby, MD. As commissioner, Auerbach heads a department of 3,100 employees that includes four public health hospitals, the state laboratory, several regulatory bodies and numerous programmatic units addressing chronic and infectious disease, substance abuse, environmental health, tobacco control, children and adolescent health and emergency preparedness.
Auerbach is chair of the Public Health Council and the state’s health policy board. He also is a member of the Governor’s Anti-Crime Committee.
The Thomson Compassionate Care celebration honors this year’s Leadership Award recipient, Selwyn Rogers, MD, MPH, division chief of Trauma, Burns and Surgical Critical Care and director of the Center for Surgery and Public Health, and the seven recipients of Compassionate Care scholarships. The recipients and projects are:
