Two families enjoyed happier holiday seasons thanks to help from BWH Neurology and Neurosurgery. The departments collected more than $1,000 in gifts for the families of two Brookside Community Health Center patients facing eviction, among other hardships.
“We wanted to do something for folks less fortunate. We contacted Brookside to see if we could potentially brighten the holidays of any patients,” said Tim Lynch, practice administrator in the departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery.
Brookside staff identified two families in need, each with three children under the age of 10. The Neurology and Neurosurgery group collected gift cards, roller skates, Legos and infant clothing and supplies.
Elizabeth Scanlan, NP, MSN, RNC, nurse manager at Brookside, said the generosity of the departments meant a lot to the families.
“The families were overwhelmed by the amount of presents, and we know that this unexpected windfall helped to make their Christmas special. We get so caught up in our day-to-day work challenges that we forget how lucky we are to having meaningful work, a safe place to live and enough food to eat,” she said. “We were stunned by the generosity of Tim and his team. The gifts they selected were perfect.”
