Sixteen Central Processing technicians last month completed a 15-week course to prepare them for the national certification exam in February. The course is offered by BWH’s Central Processing Department and Workforce Development in collaboration with Workforce Development at Bunker Hill Community College.
“You should be so proud,” said Beverley Sobers, director of Workforce Development, to the graduates during a ceremony in their honor. “This is just the beginning.”
The participants learned the principles of microbiology, functions of central processing, the process of infection and disease transmission, manual and mechanical cleaning, disinfection and decontamination, methods and chemistry of sterilization, sterile packaging and storage and more.
“You have the momentum now of education. Don’t lose it,” Geoff Vercauteren, Workforce Development’s career coach, told the participants. “You know you can do it.”
