Certain employees may be eligible to receive additional money in their paycheck each week by taking advantage of the government’s Earned Income Credit (EIC). The EIC is a credit available to individuals with a low earned income. It reduces the tax you owe and may give you a refund even if you do not owe any tax. To qualify, employees must have at least one qualifying child, expect that their earned income and adjusted gross income will each be less than $33,995 ($36,995 if married filing jointly) and expect to claim EIC in 2008. Complete a Form W-5 and receive more information in Human Resources or at www.irs.gov. Send completed forms to: Payroll Office, Schrafft’s Center, 529 Main St., Charlestown, MA 02129.
