JCAHO completed its two-week survey of the Clinical and Anatomical Pathology Laboratories and Transfusion Medicine Services last Friday.
“Thanks to an exemplary display of teamwork, the survey was a success and resulted in only a few quality control recommendations, which BWH is committed to addressing swiftly,” said Michael A. Gimbrone, Jr., MD, chair, Department of Pathology.
The survey was conducted using JCAHO’s new Tracer Methodology throughout the main campus, laboratories, and a number of satellite facilities.
“We no longer receive a numerical score, but instead participate in a learning process with JCAHO, identifying areas for continual improvement,” said Karen Nelson, executive director, Clinical Compliance and Risk Management. She also explained that the next regulatory audit will be performed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and will take place unannounced in the coming months.
Staff are encouraged to visit www.bwhpikenotes.org and select “Compliance Corner,” to evaluate their readiness for future surveys. Staff who are not certain of their role in such surveys, should contact their supervisors.
