Hilarie Cranmer, MD, MPH, of the Department of Emergency Medicine, was inducted into the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Hall of Fame for Academic All Americans. She was one of five individuals selected and recognized July 5 at a ceremony in Nashville.
The Hall of Fame honors former Academic All-Americans who graduated at least 10 years ago, have achieved success in their professional careers and whose time devoted to charity has improved their communities.
Cranmer received her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Hofstra University in 1988. While at Hofstra, she played Division I basketball for four years, was a two-time Academic All-American, earned All-East Coast Conference honors three times and was an honorable mention All-American as a sophomore. She still occupies the fifth spot on Hofstra’s all-time scoring list with 1,548 points and is the fourth all-time leading rebounder with 776. She averaged more than 14 points and seven rebounds per game over her 110-game career. She also played Division I volleyball for one year.
Cranmer is part of BWH’s Division of International Health and Humanitarian Programs and the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, through which she has volunteered in disaster relief efforts for hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the tsunami in Indonesia. Wherever she is, Cranmer finds time to fit sports into her busy schedule. At BWH, she is a member of the co-ed basketball league, and, this year as a member of the Security Enforcers, she led all female scorers during the championship game.
